⚙️ How to Use

Place Bio Rio inside the biological filtration section of your external or canister filter.

Before use, ADA recommends lightly rinsing Bio Rio G with water to remove loose powder from the surface. When using it in an external filter, a filter-media net can be used to keep the media contained and prevent pieces from entering areas of the filter where they should not be.

If the filter's flow rate decreases because the media has accumulated waste or sludge, remove the Bio Rio and gently rinse it using aquarium water rather than aggressively cleaning it.

🔄 Long-Term Biological Media

Bio Rio is intended to function as long-term biological filter media. Once established, the microorganisms living on its porous surfaces become an important part of the aquarium's biological filtration system.

Proper mechanical filtration before the biological media is recommended so that excessive debris does not accumulate within the Bio Rio.

🔬 Bio Rio vs. Bio Rio G

ADA currently lists Bio Rio G as its sintered-glass biological filter media. It retains the key concept of Bio Rio—porous biological filtration—while using sintered glass as the filter-media material. ADA states that Bio Rio G is durable, maintains stable filtration performance and has little effect on pH or hardness.

Important: Bio Rio and Bio Rio G should not be treated as exactly the same product. If your stock is specifically the original ADA Bio Rio, the product name and specifications should be listed according to the packaging of the stock you are selling.
