Pelia Moss
Monosolenium tenerum
Pelia Moss is a distinctive liverwort known for its broad, forked green fronds and soft, cushion-like growth. Although commonly sold as a moss, Monosolenium tenerum is actually a thalloid liverwort, giving it a noticeably different texture from traditional aquarium mosses.
Its lush green growth works beautifully around rocks, driftwood and other hardscape, creating a natural, slightly wild appearance. Once established, Pelia can form dense cushions that add excellent texture and depth to a planted aquarium.

Growth & Appearance
Pelia develops flat, translucent green, branching fronds that overlap as the plant grows, eventually creating dense rounded cushions. Its relatively broad structure gives it a more substantial appearance than fine-textured mosses.
It can be used as a natural foreground accent or attached to rocks and driftwood. Because the fronds are delicate and can break apart easily, gentle water flow and secure attachment are recommended while the plant establishes.
Care & Maintenance
Pelia is adaptable and can be maintained without injected CO₂, making it suitable for low-tech setups. Additional CO₂ and balanced nutrients can encourage denser and more vigorous growth.
When attaching Pelia to hardscape, use thread, mesh or aquarium-safe glue to keep the plant securely in place. Avoid excessively strong flow, as loose pieces can break away and spread around the aquarium.
Regular trimming helps maintain a compact shape and prevents loose sections from accumulating debris or becoming detached.
Ideal For
Pelia Moss is particularly suitable for:
Nature-style aquascapes
Shrimp aquariums
Nano planted tanks
Rock and driftwood layouts
Natural foreground and midground compositions
Low-tech and CO₂-injected aquariums
Its dense structure can also provide grazing surfaces and shelter for shrimp and small aquatic livestock.
