Lava Chips

Lava Chips are lightweight, porous volcanic rock commonly used as filter media and as a supporting layer beneath aquarium substrate. Their porous structure provides a large surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonize, making them useful for biological filtration.

They can also be used to create elevation and structure beneath aquasoil, helping reduce the amount of expensive substrate needed while maintaining the desired hardscape shape.

Aquarium Use

Lava Chips can be placed inside filter media bags and used as biological filter media. They are also useful underneath aquasoil or other substrates to build slopes, create elevation, and improve substrate structure.

How to Use

Rinse thoroughly before use to remove loose dust and particles. For filtration, place the chips inside a suitable media bag and position them where water can flow through them effectively. When used beneath substrate, place them according to the desired elevation and cover them with the main substrate layer.
