Limnophila aromatica ‘Mini’
Limnophila aromatica ‘Mini’ is a compact form of the popular Limnophila aromatica, valued for its smaller foliage, fine texture and attractive warm coloration. Compared with the regular form, the ‘Mini’ variety stays more compact and is particularly suitable for detailed planted layouts where a finer-textured stem plant is preferred.
Under suitable aquarium conditions, the leaves can develop green, bronze, pinkish and reddish tones, with stronger coloration generally encouraged by good lighting, adequate nutrients and stable CO₂ levels.
Limnophila aromatica ‘Mini’ produces upright stems with closely arranged, narrow leaves. Its relatively compact leaf structure gives it a delicate appearance while still providing good visual volume when planted as a group.
Regular trimming encourages branching and allows the plant to form a dense, bushy group. Its fine foliage can create excellent contrast when placed beside broader-leaved plants or fine-leaved stem species.
Light: Medium to High
Moderate to strong lighting is recommended for compact growth and better coloration.
Stronger light can encourage more pronounced warm tones, although coloration also depends on overall aquarium conditions.
CO₂ is recommended for reliable growth, compact form and stronger coloration.
The plant may survive in lower-tech aquariums, but growth can be slower and the plant may not develop the same density or coloration seen in a well-maintained CO₂-injected aquarium.
A consistent supply of nutrients is important for healthy growth. Provide a balanced combination of macronutrients and micronutrients through the substrate and/or water column according to the needs of the aquarium.
Good nutrient availability, stable CO₂ and appropriate lighting work together to produce healthier stems and better coloration.
Limnophila aromatica ‘Mini’ responds well to regular trimming.
Cut the upper portion of healthy stems and replant the cuttings directly into the substrate. The remaining lower portions can produce side shoots, allowing the group to become progressively denser.
For a fuller appearance, plant multiple stems together while maintaining enough spacing for light and water circulation.
Its compact growth and fine foliage make Limnophila aromatica ‘Mini’ suitable for the midground or background, depending on aquarium size and trimming.
It works particularly well in Nature Aquarium, Dutch-style and densely planted layouts where different leaf textures and colors are used to create depth.
