🌿 Nymphaea 'Wanvisa'
Nymphaea 'Wanvisa' is a legendary, award-winning hardy water lily originating from Thailand, celebrated worldwide for its stunning color variation and unique variegated foliage. Renowned for its bold peach-to-salmon pink blooms flecked with bright yellow cream streaks, it stands out as one of the most visually captivating water lilies available for outdoor ponds and large display tanks.
🌱 Growth & Appearance
This variety grows from a hardy tuber, producing broad floating pads with striking bronze-red and green marbling. As the lily matures, it produces large, starburst-like flowers that float at or slightly above the water surface.
Due to its unstable chimera genetics, Wanvisa occasionally produces half-and-half blossoms—where one half of the flower is solid yellow and the other half is fiery salmon-pink—making every bloom a unique showcase.
💡 Lighting & CO₂
Nymphaea 'Wanvisa' requires full direct sunlight (at least 6 hours per day) to produce consistent blossoms and maintain deep pigmentation in its foliage. Indoors or in open-top aquarium setups, intense high-output lighting is mandatory to induce flowering.
CO₂ injection is optional in shallow setups, but heavy root feeding is critical. Being a voracious feeder, it requires rich substrate enriched with heavy root tab fertilization containing nitrogen, potassium, and iron to sustain continuous leaf production and blooming.
🪴 Planting & Maintenance
Plant the rhizome at a 45-degree angle into a wide container filled with dense aquatic soil or clay substrate, keeping the growing tip exposed above the soil surface. Submerge the pot to a depth of 12 to 24 inches below the water surface.
Prune away yellowing foliage, old floating pads, and spent flower heads near the base of the rhizome to encourage fresh leaf shoots and prevent organic debris buildup. Propagation is achieved by dividing mature rhizomes during the spring growth period.
🌿 Best Use
Nymphaea 'Wanvisa' is a spectacular centerpiece specimen plant for outdoor water gardens, patio container ponds, and large open-top indoor aquarium tubs.
Its mottled foliage and variable pink-and-yellow blooms bring unmatched dramatic color and classic elegance to water features.
