🌱 Growth & Appearance

Stargrass produces upright stems covered with narrow leaves arranged closely along the stem. Under good conditions, it can develop into a thick, bushy group with a soft, star-like appearance.

Its rapid growth makes it particularly useful for filling the background or midground of an aquascape. Regular trimming encourages branching and helps create a denser, more compact group rather than allowing the stems to become tall and sparse.

💡 Lighting & CO₂

Heteranthera zosterifolia can grow in a range of setups, but stronger lighting and CO₂ injection will encourage faster, denser growth and healthier-looking foliage.

It can survive in lower-tech aquariums, although growth may be slower and less compact. Consistent lighting, CO₂ and nutrients are beneficial when aiming for a dense bushy appearance.

🪴 Planting & Maintenance

Plant individual stems into the substrate with enough space between them for light and water circulation. As the plant grows, trim the upper portions and replant healthy cuttings to gradually create a thicker group.
